P.D.H.P.E

There are 4 mandatory courses in PDHPE in years 7-10. All courses incorporate both theory and practical components designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, attitude and values needed to face the challenges that present throughout adolescence.

We also offer a camp in year 9 to support the strand ‘Lifelong Physical Activity’ which focuses on providing opportunities in physical activity not normally available to all students.

ELECTIVES

Following the mandatory courses students can choose an elective course from either sportswomen, sportsmen or fitness and training

SENIOR STUDY

In year 11 and 12 we offer the PDHPE course which is primarily a theory based course, studying not only the state of health in Australia but also investigating factors that affect an athlete’s performance, giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to improve their own performance. To supplement the ‘Outdoor Recreation’ option in year 11 students are offered the opportunity to take part in a ski camp, applying their theory studies to a practical situation.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities are provided for students to compete at a variety of levels in sport at Smith’s Hill High School. All students are expected to attend the swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals at a school level and if successful can go on to compete up to NSW State level. Our school is very active in knockout competitions and have experienced much success within the South Coast region. Students are also encouraged to try out for all Zone and South Coast Representative teams.
