There are 3 mandatory courses in Stage 4. Students in Year 7 are required to study Science 1 and Science 2.

In Year 8 students will study Science 4 in either Sssion 1 or 2. They will also complete a research project and sit the ESSA exam in November.

STAGE 5

All students in Stage 5 are required to study Science 5 and 6 in Year 9 and Science 7 and 8 in Year 10. In Year 9 they will also be required to undertake an Independent Reasearch Project, and in Year 10 they will sit the School Certificate.

SCIENCE ELECTIVES

Students can select the following Electives:

Marine Science

This course is based on different aspects of the Marine environment and marine-based activities. Students can gain their PADI Open Water Diving Certification and may get the opportunity to visit Seaworld to study marine life.

Lifestyle Science

This course is for students who have a general interest in Science and would like to studey areas in which Science relates to everyday life. The major component is Foresvsic Science and other topics could include: Household Chemistry, Environmental Issues, Space Science, Science of Surfing

Environmental Science

This course investigates environmental problems such as pollution, global warming, depletion of resources as well as local issues and issues and ways we can improve our own school environment.

SCIENCE SENIOR STUDY

Depending on demand, students can select from the following Stage 6 Science courses and may select more than one Science course.

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth & Environmental Science
  • Physics

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

There are a variety of additional activities available for students studying Science, such as The Australian Science Competition, National Chemistry Quiz, Australian Science Olympiads, Big Science Competition, Talented Students Forensic Science Camp, Regional Science Fair, Science and Engineering Challenge, Tall Poppies lectures, Children's Medical Research Institute lectures, Jeans for Genes Day; as well as excursions such as Taronga Zoo and Luna Park.

Some students will alos be offered a position in an Enrichment and Extension class which could see them being selected to accelerate in Science.
